Dorothea Margaret Tanning (25 August 1910 – 31 January 2012) was an
painter and sculptor. She also created
ballet sets and
costumes. She was also a book writer who performed
poetry. She wrote Between Lives: An Artist and Her World. Her most notable paintings were done in the 1930s, the 1940s and 1950s.
Tanning was born in
Galesburg, Illinois. She died at age 101 in
Manhattan, New York.
