As Harry is not the eldest son of the Prince of Wales, his son is neither a British prince nor does he have the style Royal Highness. However, if and when Prince Charles becomes King, according to Letters Patent issued by George V in 1917, Harry's son, as the son of the son of the sovereign will have the right to the title of Prince and style of Royal Highness (although there is precedent for titles and styles of this nature to not be used, as in the case of Prince Edward's children). There was the option of using Prince Harry's subsidiary title of Earl of Dumbarton, as a courtesy, but Meghan and Harry decided instead that he would be styled as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, in accordance with their wish that he grow up as a private citizen.
